A glass roof that supports a spaciousness cabin while shielding heat from outside

An electronic dimming function built into the panoramic roof glass helps give occupants a sense of openness in the cabin. The glass is also highly effective in shielding heat and temperature spikes from outside the cabin, enhancing comfort for all.

System operation

The desired dimming pattern (shade pattern) can be selected at the touch of a button. The panoramic roof provides a high level of heat-shielding performance regardless of dimming pattern, including when not in use.

System configuration

A liquid crystal film with variable transparency is built into the glass to control the amount of light transmitted. When a low voltage is applied to the liquid crystal film, the optical characteristics (opacity) can be changed, allowing more light to pass through when energized. When not energized, light is diffused/reflected.

The glass incorporates an infrared reflective coating and a radiant heat-reduction coating to provide high performance heat shielding. As a result, cabin temperature spikes are significantly suppressed compared to conventional glass.
